Course content
Full-time/Part-time Format
Students learn to plan safe and effective exercise programmes in a gym or health club environment. As well as basic fitness instruction, the certificate will cover:
- Anatomy and physiology of the major body systems
- Concepts and components of fitness
- Planning a gym session - designing a whole body workout
- Professionalism (ethics, customer service and health & safety)
- Fitness instruction for pregnant women and elderly clients
Assessment:
Candidates are assessed via theory exams and worksheets, plus a direct observation when instructing a gym based session.
Entry requirements:
The Certificate in Gym Instruction can be taken without prior qualifications - but students must be at least 16 with a reasonable level of fitness as well as reading, writing and numeracy skills.
Experience of free weights and resistance machines is recommended, but not essential.
Note: you will be required to attain a CPR Certificate within 6 months of gaining your qualification.
Course Duration:
12 days, including home study.
The Certificate in Gym Instruction is also available as a home study course. Through DVD-ROM tutorials and practical workshops, you can gain your certificate in around 12 weeks.
