Course content
- Clinical issues – safe treatment, sports massage regulation, professionalism and ethics, continuing professional development and communication skills
- Anatomy and physiology of the major body systems with in-depth knowledge of the musculoskeletal system
- Sports massage techniques including palpation, basic strokes, neuromuscular and muscle energy techniques
- Subjective assessment of clients, joint and muscle testing, assessment of posture, profiling and appropriate record keeping
- Soft tissue damage and repair – injury occurrence and treatment
- Post-care advice – supporting clients’ return to function
Assessment:
Candidates are assessed via theory exams, worksheets and case studies, plus direct observations when demonstrating sports massage and it’s applications to a client.
Entry requirements:
The Certificate in Sports Massage Therapy is an advanced course for established training professionals – so students will need a level 2 qualification in anatomy, physiology or exercise techniques (e.g. Premier’s Certificate in Gym Instruction).
Students must be at least 16 with a reasonable level of fitness as well as reading, writing and numeracy skills.
Note: you will be required to attaina CPR certificate within 6 months of gaining your qualification.
Course duration:
The course is made up of 230 hours of training, including some home study. Training is held over 4 weeks and 4 days at venues across the UK.
