This course is a vocationally related qualification (VRQ), at Level 2 on the National Qualifications Framework. It is also recognised by REPs at Level 2.
Physical activity in this context could include sessions (individual or group) to:
- introduce a sport or activity
- offer fun and enjoyable recreational activities
- develop social skills
- help children grow as individuals
Candidates will train to a professionally competent level, enabling them to plan and deliver safe and effective group and individual physical exercise sessions for children up to the age of 5 years and older children aged 5 to 11 years.
Qualifications and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Points
- Premier Certificate in Teaching Physical Activity to Children
- Active IQ Certificate in Teaching Physical Activity to Children
- 20 REPs CPD points

- Introduction to anatomy and physiology
- Introduction to working with children
- Preparing a physical activity session for children
- Teaching a physical activity session for children
- Concluding and reviewing a physical activity session for children
Entry Requirements
There are no specific pre-requisite qualifications, but there is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and candidates should have basic skills in communication pitched at Level 2. It is highly recommended that candidates undergo a Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check prior to commencement of the training.
Length and Format of Course
The course consists of 2 workshop days with assessment submitted after the attendance days as below.
Assessment
Submission of a detailed session plan, worksheets and a video record of a practical teaching session to include: candidate preparation for the session, teaching the session and concluding and reviewing the session, plus a theory paper set and marked by Active IQ.
