Course content
The course starts by discussing the difference between positive stress and negative stress; this concept in discussed in terms of eustress and distress. The effect that stress has on the body is examined in detail with particular reference to the activation of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems; th effects of the hormones adrenaline, noradrenaline and cortisol are examined in detail. The course examines the importance of the related concepts of arousal and anxiety and their relationship to sporting performance Then we examine the varietal causes of stress in terms of physical, environmental and dietary factors. The course then examines methods of dealing with stress with particular reference to the development of buffer zones. A range of methods are examined with an example of a progressive muscular relaxation session provided.
