Scott Mackay

"It is the best decision I have ever made and I look forward to work every day now! I enjoy the challenge of helping people to become fitter and healthier", says Scott Mckay, co-founder of "the gym Uk".

Scott McKay's interest in health and fitness stems from an early age. At the age of thirteen he represented Inverness at football and went on to play for Inverness Thistle as a semi-professional for three years before joining the RAF in 1994. He continued to play football throughout his twelve-year service and also represented two of his stations at squash.

But Scott was determined to turn his passion into a career. He was unable to retrain as a Physical Training Instructor in the RAF so he decided to embark on a personal training course as part of his resettlement package. He chose Premier

Training International because:

"Premier offers the most recognised qualifications throughout the fitness industry in this country and as such makes securing a job much easier. People know what to expect from a Premier Graduate and are never let down."

"The Premier course was very good. I met people from all walks of life who all had the same outlook; to move into the fitness industry and make a difference to peoples' lives. The course gave me a good understanding of how the body works especially from a nutritional viewpoint and that knowledge has helped me greatly since."

Since graduating, Scott has gone into partnership with a friend, Kev Smith, to open "the Gym uk", which is situated in Bumpers Farm Industrial Estate in Chippenham, Wiltshire and contained in a 10'000sq ft unit. There is a wide range of equipment available such as Precor cardio, gym 80 resistance kit and a substantial free weights area. Also incorporated is a hair and beauty studio, 2 sunbeds, a sauna and a treatment/therapy room for sports massage rehabilitation as well as an onsite Osteopath.

Scott has continued to add to his qualifications base and now offers body pump and body combat at his gym. He is also a Trixter X-bikes instructor and together with his manager, Liz Cabble, teaches instructor courses onsite in Wiltshire's first x-bike facility and training centre.

"Together with my partner I aim to franchise the company nationally. We are at present putting the franchise pack together and hope to launch it in January 2008, with the main launches coming at the trade shows next year (Expo and LIW). We have a very talented and dedicated core team at "the Gym uk" and we will look to progress their careers, along with the company, as a reward for helping make it a success."

"We have just completed our first year of trading and currently have 1300 members. We are on target to reach our 1500 limit this year. It has been a hard year with a lot of hard work but very very rewarding. I look forward to another successful year moving the business forward."
