Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training Course

The Level 3 Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training (Dip.FIPT) is Premier’s most popular course. Upon successful completion of this Diploma you will be established as an authority in the field of health and fitness – and you will be able to either apply immediately for work as a personal trainer or set yourself up on a self-employed basis. Within the industry, this is recognised as a gold standard training course.

The Level 3 Diploma is a combination of two courses – Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing and Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training. When the Premier Dip.FIPT is completed, students will receive both the ActiveIQ Level 3 in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training and an Active IQ Level 2 Diploma in Health and Fitness.

Entry Requirements

Students don’t need any qualifications to enrol in the Certificate in Fitness Instructing course. It’s an entry level course designed as a starting point for a career in health and fitness. Students do need to be aged 16 and over to enrol, with a reasonable level of fitness and reading, writing and numeracy skills. Experience with using free weights and resistance machines is desirable but not essential.

To enrol on the Certificate in Personal Training course, students must have completed the Certificate in Fitness Instructing or another suitable level 2 qualification. Again, students must be at least 16 years old, and possess a reasonable level of fitness as well as reading, writing and numeracy skills.

Key Features

Certificate in Fitness Instructing

Assessment

The assessment process for the DipFIPT includes practical assessments, multiple choice theory exams and a number of worksheets.

Learning Outcomes

Students successfully completing the Certificate in Personal Training will gain the following qualifications, all of which are accredited by Active IQ:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Fitness Instructing
  • Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training

Key Skills Required

For both the Certificate in Personal Training and Certificate in Fitness Instructing, the following key skills are needed:

  • A reasonable level of physical fitness
  • Reading, writing and numeracy skills

Stretch yourself and go beyond what you’ve already mastered with our NASM further learning courses. Develop your ability and take your career to the next level with our NASM Certified Personal Trainer Course (NASM-CPT), equivalent to a Level 4 Qualification and become an Elite Trainer. This is the most popular qualification in the US and will also enable you to work there should you choose to do so.
Enhance your earning potential further by adding Advanced Specialisms to your portfolio. We recommend the NASM Performance Enhancement Specialism (NASM-PES) and NASM Corrective Exercise Specialisms. Both these courses will help you get to the pinnacle of the profession.

Certificate in Fitness Instructing

The course content covers:

  • The anatomy and physiology of the major body systems
  • The concepts and components of fitness
  • How to design an exercise programme, including the use of free weight, resistance machines, warm up and cool down routines, flexibility, abdominal and lower back exercises
  • Professionalism – including ethics, customer service and health and safety
  • Exercise considerations for the older population, 14-16 year olds, disabled people and those in pregnancy

Certificate in Personal Training

The course content covers:

  • Introduction to Personal Training
  • Advanced anatomy and physiology
  • Health and fitness appraisal
  • Dynamic fitness testing – for power, muscular strength, endurance and flexibility
  • Core training and programme design for hypertrophy, strength, power and aerobic fitness
  • Assessment of posture and corrective exercise
  • Nutritional advice, including pre and post exercise nutrition and weight management
  • Identifying the health needs of different communities, and promoting healthy living
  • Supporting individuals to help them make activity and lifestyle changes
  • Strategies for effective communication and motivation
  • Personal training outside the gym
  • Advice on how to run a successful PT business
  • Planning and instructing functional training sessions

This course is available in a range of different formats, so you can fit your learning to your lifestyle and any existing commitments. You can enrol on the DipFIPT on either a full-time or part-time basis – but you should be prepared to commit to between four and ten weeks to complete the Certificate in Personal Training course and between two to seven to complete the Certificate in Fitness Instructing.

Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training:

Full-time (weekday) – 10 days live, face-to-face training; structured home/online study over six weeks.

Part-time (weekend) – 10 days live, face-to-face training over ten weekends, with structured home/online study.
