What Will I Learn

Developed specifically to address the anatomical and physiological differences of women, the NASM Women’s Fitness Specialisation seeks to enable personal trainers to produce results-based programming to help female clients reach their health and fitness goals by utilising the Optimum Performance Training® model.

Course Curriculum

A Level 3 Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training or a high level of working knowledge of the fitness industry is recommended.

Chapter 1: Introduction to Women's Health and Fitness
Learn why it is necessary for the Health and Fitness Professional to continue learning better ways to improve training strategies that focus on the different physiologic needs of women throughout their lifespan.

Chapter 2: Physiological and Anatomical Considerations for Women
Know how to design and implement the most effective training programs for all female clients which will require the Health and Fitness Professional to have a general understanding of women’s anatomical structure and physiologic functions during the different life phases. Basic considerations should include the natural changes and progressions that occur from adolescence through older adulthood. Amongst these changes are those that occur in pre- and postnatal and pre- and postmenopausal populations.

Chapter 3: Psychological Considerations for Women in Fitness
Understand how to find a balance between the physical work and progressions and find techniques to motivate female clients in a way that works best for each individual.

Chapter 4: Fitness Assessments for Women
Learn how the most effective use of the OPT Model is dependent on understanding where a woman is starting, both physically and mentally, and what her goals are.

Chapter 5: Flexibility Training for Women
Understand that attention to detail in every aspect of training, including goals, abilities, and motivation, is the key to proper progressions with little risk for injury for the female client.

Chapter 6: Cardiorespiratory Training for Women
Appreciate how integrated cardiorespiratory training can help the Health and Fitness Professional plan a training program that progresses the client through the various stages of training in a manner that ensures safety.

Chapter 7: Core, Balance, and Plyometric Training for Women
Learn how to design a complete and comprehensive training program for a female client consists of integrating all aspects of training, including core, balance, and plyometric exercises

Chapter 8: Resistance Training for Women
This chapter will teach you how to understand and explain the benefits of resistance training or women, how to apply appropriate resistance training exercises based on the different levels of the OPT model, and how to implement modifications specific to the pre- and postnatal client and the older female client.

Chapter 9: Integrated Program Design for Female Clients
Familiarize yourself with how to plan and design an effective training program based on female clients’ needs and goals as well as how to describe each phase of the OPT model and how to apply those phases for the female client.

Chapter 10: Nutrition Guidelines for Women
Provide general nutrition guidelines and learn how to make nutritional recommendations based on scientific evidence and scope of practice through the understanding of basic nutritional needs for women across the lifespan.

Chapter 11: Business and Professional Development
Recognize opportunities to develop professionally and ensure a successful career as a Women’s Fitness Specialist.

The final exam consists of 100 questions and you must score 70% or higher to pass.

You have 365 days from the date of purchase or date of enrollment key activation.

The exam is completed online through your NASM student portal. You have 3 initial attempts. If you fail all 3 exam attempts, a retest can be purchased.

You must get a 70% of higher to successfully pass the exam.

It is recommended that you have a Level 3 Diploma in Fitness Instructing and Personal Training, an NASM-CPT qualification, or a high level of working knowledge of the fitness industry.
