Upon completing the course, you will receive:

  • Level 4 Certificate in Physical Activity and Lifestyle Strategies for Managing Low Back Pain

This qualification is assessed by means of a practically observed assessment, a written case study and two worksheets.

It is undoubtedly the case, that there is an increasing crossover between some of the knowledge and skills that would have previously been seen as the preserve of physical therapists (e.g. sports therapists, physiotherapists and osteopaths) and that of the health and fitness professional. Many Personal Trainers, for instance, now regularly perform postural assessments and prescribe corrective exercises around these assessments. This course will particularly boost your knowledge in managing human function in relation to non-specific low back pain, which accounts for 95% of low back pain cases.

With this in mind, as well as increasing your credibility and earning potential as a Level 4 Personal Trainer, this course will give you the ability to integrate a number of therapy related assessments, corrective exercises and lifestyle strategies and open your eyes to the future of personal training.

This Level 4 Certificate will cover:

  • Prevalence and classifications of low back pain
  • Functional anatomy of the low back
  • The psychosocial components of low back pain
  • Communication skills, including a cognitive behavioural approach and motivational interviewing
  • Functional/physical assessment and screening
  • Progressive programme design and lifestyle strategies for low back pain sufferers

In order to best meet your particular circumstances, time constraints and preferred learning style, the qualification is structured using a blend of online, paper based and face-to-face delivery.

The qualification includes interactive, online home study modules, a live 1 day workshop and further live assessment day, approximately 6 weeks after the workshop. The course will take approximately 8-10 weeks to complete. Please note that you will need to have regular access to the internet to complete the qualification.
